If you are interested in doing chart comparisons between night and day temps or oral and vaginal temps or if you already have them and would like to post them here feel to add them. There is an interest in seeing the differences. Here are examples of NIGHT&DAY and ORAL vs VAG.

Here is my comparison from my cycle #6, you can click through my charts to see the real chart (with am temps recorded). I found it interesting that while both showed a shift, my night temps were a more dramatic shift, but were a day later. TCOYF dropped my Nest on CD24. FWIW, I started temping at night midway through cycle #12 (after my son was born), and then continuing with cycles 13-15. My charts became a lot more steady and clear, the more I got the hang of it.Flowers

Do you ladies recommend taking your temp at night rather and vaginally?

It almost looks like vaginal temp are more "reliable" than oral temps, and if I understand Ibm436 correctly (please feel free to correct me if I am wrong) then temping at night is also more 'clearer' in results than temping in the morning or during the day?

I would personally recommend temping vaginally in the morning. I have found that with my oral morning temps, I would be lucky to see any ovulation on my chart, unless I disturbed quite a few temps anyway lol.

Unless you have a reason (night shifter, non standard work shift or varying shift, waking with children, BFing or just plain getting up all night every night then no morning temps are your most accurate. There tends to be more variability and for most less distinction between pre and post though you can still see a difference. The rules are the same - same time, same therm, same conditions. You must have a quiet period with no eating, drinking or moving around that  lasts at least a 1/2 hour. No brushing teeth, heart racing TV shows or movies.... It works for LBM because she has a baby was BFing and her nights of sleep were often interrupted making her morning temps questionable or by definition disturbed.

Yes, as DJ said, my son was waking me up and I couldn't get a consistent temp time or sometimes a temp at all. So I switched to night temps. For me, it turned out to work better. But for most, I would agree that morning temps are more accurate.Flowers

Hi ladies

I am currently temping both orally and vaginally for comparison as I've had to start wearing a mouth guard at night due to grinding my teeth and I'm curious as to whether it might be effecting my temps. I would like to chart the vag temps on here also but I can't work out how you're doing a second chart or 2 temps on the same chart - can anyone offer ideas please? I am using the online software.

Thanks!

They are doing the comparison's on a spreadsheet. I think Excel. Some keep their charts in excel and do their own determinations as you would paper charting. There is no way to keep two charts here unless you have two separate accounts or you use both web and PC. You still would not be able to overlay like FF and would have to input or lay out on paper.

Interesting!  I took my temp last night before falling asleep (laid there reading for an hour) had just started AF in late p.m. so I was curious if temp had dropped since the morning. Sure enough, it had. But upon waking this morning it was back up. Definitely will be trying my hand at an excel spreadsheet to compare am and pm...consider me intrigued!

Ive started doing oral and vaginal again, just to see if my oral are still unreliable (usually they were in my luteal as I'm a mouth breather lol)

Look pretty similar so far ... sitting at CD7

CD15 so far, temps the last couple of days have been the same oral and vaginal? Dont have a clue why lol....I'm thinking O was around CD11/12/13, even though my chart has missing temps and disturbed temps( we had our independence referendum this past weekend, so I spent the weekend with friends lol)  I didnt disturb CD11 as it wasnt too far off previous temps, but CD12 was waaaay higher than normal for me, so I disturbed that one. Usually I Ovulate on the last day of EWCM, or the day before, so I reckon CD11 or CD12 which has been pretty usual for me the last 7 months or so...last month however I didnt ovulate until CD15. I will only know for sure once AF arrives Smile

Here is last cycles completed chart with AF arriving this morning. I just re-read my last post and noticed I made a mistake lol...I usually Ovulate on the last day of EWCM or the day AFTER, not before haha. Anyway, here it is, hope it's useful for someone

Looks like I ovulated CD13 with a 12 day LP

Another very short cycle....16 days total, with Ovulation appearing to be cd7

My mouth breathing has definitely improved recently...I'm happy to see that :)

Only 2 days of EWCM this cycle, turned to very little sticky fluid from cd8 onwards

I'm using a Walgreens digital (fever therm) for the oral temps and a Target brand basal body for the vag.  In a previous post, I mentioned the target brand may not be the most accurate as it seems to give the same # a lot- and I know you can have the same temperature multiple days, but when you have a hundredth place on the therm, it seems odd to me that 97.73 would come up 3 days in a row and 97.90 would pop up so often too.  One of those days wasn't 97.74? lol   I am not going to read too much into it though and just go with the numbers it gives me.

Overall, I am surprised at how my oral temps are not that rocky after all -- I'm a mouth breather.  I have been taking a few (like 3) seconds to warm it each morning before taking my temp and I think that may be helping from the ups/downs of the room temperature where it was stored overnight?  It looks better than previous months so far to me.  I'm excited to see how it looks as my O date approaches.  I've seen the temperature rise on my last few months temping orally so I'm wondering how much of an increase I may see post-O.... I was so used to having 97.6 be my MAX temp post O -- I might even get into the 98's.
