I'm helping my friend learn how to chart, and it's looking like she has a short (like 6 day) Luteal Phase. She described her cycle to me last cycle and from what she described with cervical fluid, I guessed she O'd a few days "late" and had a short LP. This last cycle she was able to chart and it appears that she does have a 6 day LP. She used OPKs and temped, though her temps need to be more consistent, which she has been doing better at this cycle.
Is low progesterone the reason for a short LP or are there other factors too? I am trying to encourage her to get several detailed charts completed so she will have as much data as she can to bring to a Dr some day. She has a 2 year old daughter and has been TTC for a bit now, but has been doing the "bd until day 14" strategy, but because she O's "late", obviously that's not gonna work.
Me: 30 - DH: 30 Married 2008
Began Charting September 2012.
A.B. born naturally July 29th, 2013
O.C. born naturally September 1st, 2015
due September 11th, 2017!
Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow.
Is she breastfeeding still, recently weaned or coming off BCP? Those are few things that come to my mind. That sounds good to get several detailed charts to verify what is going on.
Me(Marie): 28 & DH: 27 married 7 years
Started charting 2010 after stopping HBC. My charts: http://www.ovusoft.com/members/SoccerGirl/charts/default.aspx
DS born Sept 2013 (BFP after 18 months TTC on 3rd month Clomid 50mg CD5-9)
TTC#2 Sept 2014 5w Dec 2014 11w July 2015 10w March 2016
April 2016- discovered subclinical hypothyroidism with thyroid antibodies- taking NDT, I also have other autoimmune issues
I asked her the same things. Not breastfeeding and she wasn't on BCP since she had her daughter (I'm not sure if she was on it before but I doubt it matters).
Does her O seem to match up with the OPK? How late is late? Could you share a shot of her chart(s) with us?
Ok, so you have to take the temps with a grain of salt because she was not great at temping consistently at the same time with the right amount of sleep. She chose a time that seemed like a good one but was often woken earlier.
Her temps aren't high, I am pretty sure she O'd right before that big jump (with a fallback), not where it's marked. She got her EWCF and +(albeit weakish +) OPK after the marked O on her chart (plus it doesn't follow the 6 temp rule, even though her temps are not 100% accurate).
This is the best picture I could get, sorry it's small and blurry.
I'd say O is most likely second day of + OPK. That gives an 8 day LP.
Issues in the LP 99% of the time originate in the FP. The amount of progesterone produced is a direct result of the "health" of the conversion of the follie to a corpus luteum. Without a good strong ovulation and all that goes with it you won't have a strong CL producing adequate progesterone to support a long LP and healthy lining development. I personally have felt for a long time that with all of the exposure to xenoestrogens, other toxic environmental exposures, synthetic hormones and even phytoestrogens in supplements many women are facing IF issues because their cycles can't proceed in the manner they should.
